Sébastien Noël est né à Mulhouse en 1980. Il est diplomé de l’Ecole Européenne de Chimie, Polymères et Matériaux de Strasbourg (ECPM) depuis 2004. Il a obtenu son doctorat de l’Université de Lyon 1 en 2007 sous la direction du Dr. C.Pinel et du Dr. L. Djakovitch au sein de l’Institut de recherches sur la catalyse et l’environnement de Lyon (IRCELYON).
Ses travaux ont porté sur la synthèse de ligands bifonctionnels optiquement actifs pour l’hydrogénation asymétrique via l’arylation catalytique de dérivés de l’acroléine.
De novembre 2007 à avril 2008, il a travaillé sous la direction du Dr. M. Besson (IRCELYON) sur l’hydrogénolyse du glycérol en présence de catalyseurs métalliques supportés. En 2008-2009, il est parti à l’Université de Groningue (Pays-Bas) pour développer avec les professeurs E. Heeres et J. de Vries une synthèse du caprolactame à partir d’un composé biosourcé. Il a ensuite travaillé avec les docteurs I. Bonnamour, M. Taoufik et U. Darbost (Université Lyon 1) sur la préparation et l’immobilisation de complexes de cuivre stabilisés par des calixarènes. Il a rejoint l’équipe du professeur E. Monflier en 2010 en tant qu’ATER pour travailler sur la préparation de nanoparticules métalliques en milieu aqueux pour l’hydrogénation de dérivés furanniques. Il est nommé Maître de conférences de l’Universié d’Artois en décembre 2011. Ses thèmes de recherche s’articulent autour de la mise en oeuvre de catalyseurs hétérobimétalliques pour la valorisation des composés biosourcés.
